Dear Sun Spots: I’m hoping someone can help me.

I am an 89-year-young lady in the South Paris health care center. During the breaking up of my home in Fryeburg, my Raggedy Ann doll got taken to the thrift shop at the Congregational Church in Fryeburg. This was a gift to me from my granddaughter 30 years ago and has great sentimental value to me. I am so sad without her.

If any Sun Spots reader knows someone who may have picked her up and would be willing to return her to me, I will be ever so grateful. I will gladly pay for any expense or whatever they may ask.

I can be reached at Market Square Health Care, Maple Street, South Paris, ME 04281. I can also be reached by calling 743-7086 and leaving a message and your return phone number.

Dear Sun Spots: I am trying to find out if the Mechanic Falls High School Class of 1955 had the opportunity to purchase necklaces/pendants along with a class ring?  My mother was a member of that graduating class and in one of her class pictures is wearing a necklace/pendant that I am trying to identify.

Dear Sun Spots: Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends is a local nonprofit organization of volunteers who care for homeless cats in their outdoor environment.  We are in need of blue spruce or fir boughs to make winter shelters for our feral cat “families.”

Your kind and caring donation will be removed by us. Simply call Norm at 650-8374, and he will pick up your donation.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Dear Sun Spots: Once again I need your help. I’d like a recipe for green tomato pickles. I know the ingredients but don’t remember the amounts or the method. If someone could please provide the details, I would greatly appreciate having this recipe. My phone number is 782-8958.

Thank you very much. Keep up the good work.

Answer: While you’re waiting for the readers to respond, here is a recipe Sun Spots found at www.cooks.com:

Green tomato pickles

2 pounds green tomatoes

4 onions

¼ cup canning salt

4 peppers, chopped

1 quart vinegar

½ teaspoon celery seed

½ teaspoon mustard seed

1 tablespoon whole allspice

1 tablespoon whole cloves

1 pound sugar

Choose firm, small to medium green tomatoes (entirely green, not partially ripe) and firm, white onions. Wash well. Remove stem ends. Slice tomatoes and onions, sprinkle with salt and let stand overnight. Rinse well in cold water; add peppers.

To the vinegar, add spices (tied in a cheesecloth bag) and sugar. Mix with vegetables and cook over low heat (or in a crockpot) for about two hours. Remove spice bag.

Put vegetables into clean jars and cover with hot vinegar, leaving ¼-inch head space. Adjust and seal lids. Process in boiling water bath for 10 minutes.

Makes five or six one-pint jars, depending on size of vegetables used.
