Dear Sun Spots: As Red Sox fans, we have noticed that it looks like Dustin Pedroia puts something in his hat after he bats. What is it? We watch the games with our dad and our grandfather, but none of us can figure this out. Our grandmother said to ask Sun Spots for help. —  Ethan and Austin Brown, Auburn

Answer: You are not alone in your curiosity. Chris Cameron, director of media relations for the Sea Dogs, sent Sun Spots a column by sports writer Amalie Benjamin, who covers the Red Sox for the Boston Globe.

One of Benjamin’s readers asked the same question, and she followed up by asking it of Pedroia after a game. His response, according to her column on www.boston.com, was: “‘That’s private,’ he said laughing and walking out of the clubhouse.” Benjamin said she hoped to pry an answer out of him eventually.

Dear Sun Spots: I always gravitate to your column whenever I am reading the Sun Journal. It is accurate, complete and enlightening. I am certain that it is read daily by most readers of the newspaper.

I would like to suggest an improvement to the layout of the column. Your column utilizes bold print for the questions and light for the answers. This is perfectly fine for most of your questions and answers. The “rub” for me is when two or more questions are asked without any corresponding answer and the questions seem to run together.

An easy solution would be to separate questions with an icon of some sort. Perhaps a sun icon would be perfect since the column is titled Sun Spot? This is not a big deal, but a separation of some sort would make it easier to read and digest the information.
Thanks and keep up the good work! — Peter, No Town

Answer:
Sun Spots agrees with you, Peter, and has noticed the problem herself. To make it easier to read, we’ll try to leave a blank line between two questions in a row, if space allows. Hope this helps you read Sun Spots!

Dear Sun Spots:
I want to thank Sun Spots’ readers for their help in the past in supporting Turner Elementary School. School has started, and we are collecting Box Tops 4 Education to raise money for our school. Our goal this year is $1,500. If any readers have some they would like to donate, they can be mailed to me: Laurie Labbe, 5 Brookfield Estates Turner, ME 04282. Thank you.— Laurie Labbe,
Turner

Dear Sun Spots: I would like to thank all the Sun Spots’ readers who continue to send our school, Open Door Christian Academy, their Campbell’s soup labels and General Mills box tops. We are still collecting these items if any Sun Spots’ reader would like to send them to us. They can be dropped off or mailed to the school: 26 Gartley St., Lisbon, ME 04250. Thank you again for your support. — Pat Holt, Open Door Christian Academy

Dear Sun Spots: I have a Nikon One-Touch 35-mm camera (with instruction booklet) that I no longer use. Quite a while ago your column listed the name of an organization that teaches photography. I would like to contact them to see if they could use the camera. I can be reached in Auburn at 783-3890. Keep up the good work. Your column provides a valuable contribution to the community. — Mary, Auburn
