FARMINGTON — Community members who have lost their lives to violence will be remembered during A Day of Remembrance observance planned for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Meetinghouse Park on Main Street.

The Day of Remembrance will open with a nondenominational spiritual invocation. Keynote addresses will be delivered by Steve Rowe, former Maine attorney general, and Tom Saviello, state representative.

There will be a candlelit vigil and an open time for surviving family members and loved ones to speak about their experiences.

Franklin County’s Day of Remembrance will pay tribute to the memories of 11-year-old Amber Pond (1988-1999) and 17-month-old Matteo Hanson (2007-2008), and others, all victims of family violence.

The observance comes just days after the state of Maine recognized the third annual National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims on Sept. 25.

Sexual Assault Victims Emergency Services, Franklin County’s sexual violence response project, and Abused Women’s Advocacy Project, a domestic violence response project serving Franklin County, have partnered to remember these community members.
