Monthly drawing

PARIS — The
Paris Public Library is offering, for all ages, monthly questions
similar to those on the television show, “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader.” The October questions revolve around third grade social studies. Correct entries will be included in a monthly drawing and two surprise prizes will be awarded. All ages are welcome to participate for free with one monthly entry. The deadline for this month’s entry is Friday, Oct. 23.

Cemetery association

EAST OTISFIELD — The annual meeting of the Elmwood Cemetery Association will be held at at 4 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 17, at the
East Otisfield Baptist Church.

Winter reading

PARIS — Hamlin Memorial Library has announced its winter checkout period. Any books checked out between Saturday, Oct. 17 and Oct. 31 do not have to be returned to the library until April 1, 2010.

Church service

NORWAY — The Unitarian Universalist churches of Norway and West Paris have
members and visitors of many different beliefs and religious
backgrounds. On Sunday, Oct. 11, the Rev. Richard Beal
will present a service titled “Theo-logy and Thea-ology: Is a God or
Goddess Who Acts to Makes Changes In the World Necessary.”

Sunday services in West Paris are held at 9 a.m. and in Norway at 11 a.m.

County Republicans

RUMFORD — The Oxford County Republican Committee will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Rumford Center Grange Hall, Route 2. Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by a dinner and business meeting at 6:30. Sen. David R. Hastings and Rep. H. Sawin
Millett will discuss the seven referenda questions that will be on the

Community suppers

WATERFORD — Community suppers will be held at 6 p.m. on the third
Thursday of each month through May, beginning Oct. 15. Suppers will be at the Wilkins Community House, Plummer Hill Road.

All are welcome and those attending should bring a dish to share. Rolls, bread and beverages will
be provided. Those interested in presenting a short program after each supper are welcome and may choose the month to present. For more information, call 583-6677.

Card party

SOUTH PARIS — The Maine Veterans’ Home Alzheimer’s unit will have a holiday card stamp-a-stack benefit at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, in the Activities Room, 244 High St. Participants will make 20 cards.
