FARMINGTON — As police continued their investigation Thursday into the spree of car thefts Tuesday night, no arrests have been made but police have identified several people of interest, Lt. Niles Yeaton of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department said.
A break-in at Rick’s Market in Wilton on Tuesday night is also believed to have ties to the car thefts, he said. A burglary suspect was caught on video as he smashed the front door and attempted to pry the cash register open before police arrived.
At least four and maybe more are believed to be involved thefts of three cars in Temple, one from Farmington and one from Augusta, Yeaton said. One suspect is being held on a probation hold and another suspect is currently wanted by Waterville police, he said.
Eight county deputies, along with Lt. Jack Peck, Detective Marc Bowering of Farmington police and Lt. Page Reynolds of Wilton Police Department gathered Thursday morning to share information and develop a timeline for the spree. Police believe it began around 10 p.m. Tuesday and was over by 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Calls from residents have provided pieces of information that were shared among the officers Thursday. The law enforcement personnel chose Yeaton to speak for all the departments involved.
Evidence was being prepared for transport to the state crime lab in Augusta on Friday morning, he said.
