Carroll A. Huston
1924 – 2009
LEWISTON — Carroll A. Huston, 85, formerly of 36 Center St. in Lisbon Falls, died peacefully Monday, Oct. 26, at Marshwood Health Care Facility with his daughter Sheila at his side.
He was born in Lisbon Falls, Sept. 11, 1924, a son of Carroll B. and Florence (Pelley) Huston. He was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community. He was a military veteran having served his country in the Navy during World War II.
On Aug. 24, 1948, he married his best friend and love of his life, the former Vera Fowler. Together, they settled in Lisbon Falls to raise their family. She predeceased him on Feb. 27, 2007. He worked many years as a local building contractor (Carroll A. Huston & Sons) until his retirement.
He was a member of Lisbon Falls Methodist Church, the VFW, Pejepscot Snow Chiefs, Lisbon Fish and Game, and the Maine Jaycees. He was a Registered Maine Guide and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and motorcycling.
When fishing, it was almost always with his best friends, Uncle Stub and Uncle Chuck. He was a well-known businessman and a longtime active community member and supporter who was given a Lifetime Achievement Award from Governor Baldacci earlier this year. He was a loving and hard-working husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed.
He leaves his children, Sheila Huston of Lisbon Falls, Al Huston of Center Conway, N.H., Gary S. Huston and wife, Joanne, of Lisbon Falls and Doug Huston and wife, Jennifer, of Bowdoin; grandchildren, Danny C. Lachance and his wife, Crystal, Jackie-Lynn Martel and husband, Rob, Christie-Lynn Clifford and Heather and Haley Huston; great-grandchildren, Jennifer-Lynn and Dillon R. Clifford, Jared E. Martel and Alexa and Korie Lachance; sisters, Gwen Stebbins and husband, Arthur, of Lisbon Falls, Donna Pelkey and husband, Bob, also of Lisbon Falls, Linda Pulk and husband, Ken, of Litchfield; brothers, Donald Huston and wife, Eleanor, of Lisbon Falls, George Huston and wife, Jeannie, of Lisbon Falls, John Huston and wife, Debbie, of Bowdoinham and Norm Lamphere and wife, Joyce, of Lisbon Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Vera; a son, David; three brothers; and two sisters.
