DEAR SUN SPOTS AND CITIZENS OF MAINE: I am writing to you to say hello from the smallest state in the union, Rhode Island. I am a seventh-grade student at Goff Junior High School in Pawtucket. For my geography class we are working on a semester-long project in which we are responsible for creating an oral, written and poster project on a particular U.S. state. I chose to do my report on Maine.

Could you please publish this letter in your paper so that your readers can help me on my project? My teacher explained that firsthand information from citizens of our chosen state would be much more helpful than information we gathered in books and off the Internet. If your readers could send me some information, pictures or tourist information, it would help me so much with my project.

They can send the information right to me at school: Anthony Vasquez, seventh-grader, Goff Junior High School, Mr. Gilmore’s Period 6 Class, 974 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, RI 02861. Thank you for your help with my report and project. — Anthony, Pawtucket

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you find out what weekend and what hours Hodgman’s custard stand will be open in December? Thank you. — Sandy C., Livermore Falls

ANSWER: Hodgman’s Frozen Custard, 1108 Lewiston Road in New Gloucester, didn’t answer their phone, 926-3553. Hopefully they will see this and respond.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read in your Oct. 27 column about various fairs in the area. I would like to let the public know about the Winterberry Fair being held at the Woman’s Literary Union clubhouse at 19 Elm St., in Auburn, on Saturday, Nov. 7, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In the main meeting room there will be opportunity for the public to purchase items from the bake table, gift table, jewelry table and the knit-and-stitch table. The Potting Shed, located in the library, will offer Partridge berry bowls, bunches of winterberries, plants and a White Elephant table. Raffles, including a $75 gas gift card, will be set up in the downstairs foyer.

The dining room of the home will be the location of the Winterberry Cafe, which will offer various teas, scones, coffee cake and cinnamon buns in the morning and a lunch of traditional English sandwiches, a healthy leek soup, dessert and beverage. The cafe will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with lunch starting at 11 a.m. For more information, call Cathy at 783-9485. Thank you, Sun Spots, for all that you do for our community. — Cathy Westleigh, Lewiston

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We have an older model self-contained camper that we would like to give away. Is there anyone out there who wants it or will haul it for free? Please call 897-5091. — Jean Tardif, Livermore

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We are looking for someone to snowblow our driveway in Lewiston. The gentleman who has done it for many years is no longer able to service his customers. Hoping Sun Spots or readers will come though for us. We can be reached at 782-9440. — No Name, Lewiston

ANSWER: Have you checked the Sun Journal classified ads? There are several ads for snow removal services.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read your Oct. 20 column about rain barrels and wanted your reader to know that I have made several of them. I would be interested in making one for you or others to your specifications for a small charge. For example, I made one for my girlfriend that contains 55 gallons and is located under a rain gutter and it never goes dry. Feel free to call me at 795-6948 or e-mail me at sjmartelli@roadrunner.com with any questions that you might have. Regards. — Stephen J. Martelli, Lewiston

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In regard to the reader looking for rain barrels, they can be found at Gardeners Supply Co. The Web site is www.gardeners.com or the phone number is 800-427-3363. — Pat, Lewiston
