FARMINGTON — Matthew Brann served his last day with the Farmington Police Department on Wednesday and begins his first day as a full-time Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy Sunday.

“I just always wanted to do rural patrol, and there are a few more opportunities with the county,” he said. He has worked part time for the Sheriff’s Department since 2006 and with the Farmington Police Department since Dec. 20, 2004.

“I wanted something different every day. I didn’t want a desk job,” he said of his choice of a career.

Law enforcement is a family tradition. His uncle is
a lieutenant with the Augusta Police Department; his grandfather is a part-time Kennebec County Sheriff’s deputy, he said.

Brann grew up in China, graduated from Erskine Academy there in 2001 and attended Southern Maine Community College in South Portland.

The 26-year-old officer and his wife, Kirsten, live in New Vineyard.
