Bertha Flanders

1910-2009

SOUTH PARIS – Bertha May Flanders, 99, of South Paris, died on Nov. 13.

She was born June 25, 1910, on Bird Hill in Bethel, the daughter of Charles and Ella (Thomas) Jordan. She was educated in Locke Mills schools, and lived on Bird Hill all of her life.

Bertha married George Flanders on June 25, 1930. He died in 1967.

She had worked at E.L. Tibbets and Echo Wood Products for 46 years, retiring in 1975. She was the oldest member of the Locke Mills Union Church, and a life-long member of the Franklin Grange. She was also a member of the ladies circle, the Senior Citizens of both Bethel and Bryant Pond, and a life-long member of the Maine State Grange. She was a member of the Jefferson Chapter O.E.S. since 1938 — having served as Worthy Matron in 1946, and again in 1972.

She has made pies for the church suppers for many years, she is a wonderful cook. She is known as Aunt Bertha to most of the people of Locke Mills

She was predeceased by three brothers, Ansel, LeRoy and Orlando; and one sister, Edna MorseMoxcey.

She will be greatly missed by several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Kelly Bickford, Vera Cross, Harriet Gilpatric, and all the nurses at Norway Rehabilitation for all the time and caring they gave Bertha.
