DEAR SUN SPOTS: You have helped me before, so I am turning to you once again. I have several cards that I would like to send to service women or men to let them know how much I appreciate what they are sacrificing to help keep our country safe. I would like to know where I could call or write to obtain some names and addresses. Thanks for your good work. — Mabel Goding, Poland

ANSWER: Apparently there used to be a way you could send cards to “any soldier,” but that appears to no longer be the case due to terrorism concerns.

If you want to adopt a soldier to send mail to, you can go to www.anysoldier.com and register your e-mail. You can then select a soldier to send mail and packages to and will be provided an address.

If you want to send a card electronically, visit www.letssaythanks.com.

The only source for standard mail Sun Spots found was at maturevolunteers.com. The Red Cross is sponsoring sending holiday cards. Send yours to Holiday Mail for Heroes, P.O. Box 5456, Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On behalf of patients throughout Maine who have been helped by your efforts, the Anderson-Staples Post 113 of Oxford extends a heartfelt thank-you to local blood donors. The Oct. 9 blood drive at Post 112 was a great success. Fifty-two donors, six for the first time, gave. Without these donors and Red Cross blood drive sponsors throughout the state, the ability to serve the community would be greatly reduced.

The Red Cross, being in vital need for blood, asked that the Post 112 hold this extra drive in October. Those who gave play an integral part in providing for the sick or injured citizens of Maine. American Red Cross donor recruitment representative Paul Flanagan, legion representative Joe Bernard and Red Cross collection team congratulate all who responded to this vital need. — Joe Bernard, Oxford

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have been looking to buy rims for a 2007 Dodge Dakota and have been to three different places and been unable to get them. I was wondering if you might know of a place I could find some. I have checked Randy’s in Auburn and Sun Auto in Norridgewock and North Anson. Any help would be good. Thanks. — No Name, Strong

ANSWER: Sun Spots would guess that your truck is too new to have many used parts available. She has had good luck buying parts for her vehicles (albeit much older) at Aable Auto Parts on Windsor Road in Chelsea, 582-7542. Perhaps readers will have additional suggestions.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is the lady who had her picture in the paper on Oct. 28, Constance Mercier, running for school board in Ward 5 the same lady (Connie Mercier) that sells traction aids? Both live on Fourth Street in Auburn? Thanks. — Auburn Reader

ANSWER: Yes, she is. If you want to buy a traction aid, call her at 784-1481. She says they are good on mud as well as ice and snow.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: To Ward 5 in Auburn, I want to say thank you so very much to everyone who voted for me. I appreciate all 903 of you. — Constance J. Mercier, school board

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Santa Comes to Poland needs your help. We are a nonprofit organization that gives out gifts to the children on Christmas Eve. Our sleigh barn needs a new roof; it is very weak, and with winter coming it will not hold the snow. We are looking for donations to help get it fixed. Our club funds are to buy the children’s gifts. We do not have the funds to fix the roof. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. For more information please call Judy at 212-8286 or Larry at 998-2653. — Judy, No Town

DEAR SUN SPOTS: To God, my family, friends and neighbors, thank you for the prayers, cards and visitations during my open heart surgery. You will never know what they meant to me while I was fighting the biggest battle of my life to reach my 88th birthday. God bless you. — Margaret Howitt, Rumford
