LEWISTON — Youth ages 13 to 17 in Androscoggin County will soon have a new online jobs listing resource at www.jumpinjobs4teens.com.

The Web site was established by Safe Haven of Androscoggin County under the leadership of Chairwoman Maggie Chisholm, Lewiston’s director of recreation. Safe Haven is a group of youth service providers across the county who have worked for nearly a decade to create, plan and support programming geared toward young people.

The local Safe Haven Committee undertook the JumpinJobs4Teens endeavor when it became apparent to them that young people in need of employment needed additional assistance, including a portal focused specifically on young people seeking jobs within the community, a site specifically for learning job seeking and on-the-job skills/tips/resources and  a quick and efficient way to find those employers who want to hire young people.

The site will be launched in the next month, and Safe Haven of Androscoggin County is currently seeking employers to post jobs they have available for youth, free of charge.

“We are encouraging local employers to take advantage of this free offering by visiting www.jumpinjobs4teens.com and clicking on the employer’s link. In order to post a job, we ask that employers are either a municipal or town agency/organization, a member of the Better Business Bureau or a member of the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce,”
Chisholm said.

The design and development of the site involved young people, and the name of the Web site was chosen through a youth-only contest. In addition, the look and content of the Web site was decided upon through the voice of youth focus groups.
