BETHEL —The Mahoosuc Community Band will perform a variety of traditional favorites and newer selections at its holiday concert Sunday, Dec. 6, at West Parish Congregational Church.

Music will include “A Christmas Portrait,” “C’est Noel (It’s Christmas),” “Sleigh Ride,” “Greensleeves,” “Nutcracker Suite” and “Folk Song Suite,” by R. Vaughn Williams. Refreshments will be available following the concert when concert-goers may visit with the musicians.

The band has been bringing music to the Bethel area for about 16 years. It was formed when SAD44’s music program was eliminated as a cost-saving effort. Since then, the band has grown to include people from Hanover, Dixfield, Waterford and Paris, as well as Telstar High School and Gould Academy. It’s a group of people of all ages who simply enjoy making music.

After the December concert, the band will take a break until Jan. 4. It will play for Music in the Schools in February, with school musicians encouraged to join its rehearsals. The band also plans a spring concert in May before its summer performances and parades for Mollyockett Day and Memorial Day.

The concert will begin at 4 p.m. Donations will help with music and
instrument purchases as well as operating costs for the volunteer community
band.

New members are always welcome. For more information, contact Patricia Boyle-Wight, director, (824-8453 or [email protected]) or Kathleen DeVore, president, (875-2364 or [email protected]).
