SOUTHWEST HARBOR (AP) — Police in Manset are trying to notify next of kin about the death of a local woman whose body washed up on shore.

Officer Allen Smith of the Southwest Harbor Police Department said Friday that the 56-year-old woman has been identified, but her name hasn’t been released as police try to contact her family.

A resident walking along the beach found the body along the shore between Seawall and the Manset town dock around 11 a.m. Wednesday. Two days earlier, a kayak was found along the same section of shore.

Smith told the Bangor Daily News the woman’s death is not believed to be suspicious.
