Food drive

AUBURN — The Androscoggin Valley Scottish Rite Masons will have a food drive for the Good Shepherd Food Bank from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Auburn Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. There will be a free spaghetti supper from
6 to 7 p.m. for those who donate at least one canned good. In addition, from 5 to 6 p.m., there will be a presentation about the Scottish Rite Masonic bodies and their activities in the community.

World nativities

LEWISTON — The Calvary United Methodist Church, 59 Sabattus St.,
will hold its second annual display of nativities from around the world
and spanning several generations from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5.

A donation of $5 will allow one to enjoy the display and have
refreshments. A drawing will be in progress during the tea for those
who purchased $10 tickets in the weeks before the event. Each ticket
holder will receive an item of $20 or more in value, donated from local
businesses and crafters.

One does not need to be present to collect from the drawing. For more information, call 783-4875.

Bridge results

LEWISTON —
The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Nov. 30 were as follows: first, Cynthia and Bill Clifford; second, Dick Allen and Pete Cummings; third, Paul Sherman and Les Buzzell; fourth, Marta Clements and Nancy Lindgren. First in strata B, Cynthia and Bill Clifford; second, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays and Tuesdays and at 6:30 p.m.

German stars

TURNER — MSAD 52 Adult and Community Education will teach participants how to make German Stars during a one-night class on
Tuesday, Dec. 8. Four pieces
of paper will be folded into three-dimensional stars, dipped in melted
paraffin then sprinkled with glitter. To register, call the Adult Education office at 225-3478 or visit online

LEWISTON — Filmmakers Catherine Tatge and Dominique Lasseur will speak about
the role of new video technology in democratic citizenship at 7 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 3, at Bates College in the Keck Classroom (Room G52) of
Pettengill Hall, 4 Andrews Road.

The lecture, titled “Video/Democracy: Civic Life in the Age of
YouTube,” is open to the public and admission is free.

The lecture will address whether documentary storytelling through
film and video can enable students to pursue social activism and civic
engagement in a time when colleges such as Bates are placing public
work at the heart of undergraduate education.

Society meeting

BOWDOIN — The Bowdoin Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 6, at the former Bowdoin Central School. Members should bring a
gift to exchange, money for a collection to be given to LACO and an
antique or special Christmas ornament to share. There will be refreshments and members are requested to bring an item for the refreshment
table. The public is invited and new members are welcome.
