Returning letter winners: Seniors – Andrew Currier (130), Gary Theriault (135/140), Jon Iams (145/152).
Key losses: Sean Kelly (135).
Promising newcomers: Junior – Matt Archer (285); Freshmen – Khalil Newbill (103/112), Kevin Moore (112), Drew Blanched (130), Tyler Steurd (215).
What to expect: The Cougars are trying to rebuild themselves into a competitive program and attracted more than 40 athletes to tryouts. This will add depth and help push each other. Theriault (29-19) was a regional champion and Currier was KVAC champion. Iams was held out for injury at the end of the season. Several new wrestlers will need to step up. The Cougars may take some lumps in December, but they should be improved by end of season.
Outlook: “Our finish last year did not show how good we really were, losing three scorers toward the end of the season due to injuries. With this group, I believe we will make a strong run at the Eastern A regional.”- Coach Bob O’Connor
