Boys’ Basketball
Coach: Ryan Deschenes (fourth year)
Last year’s record: 12-9, lost in Western C semifinals
Returning letter winners: Seniors -Nathan Poulin (5-7 guard), Chris Bryant (5-11 forward/guard), T.J. Novella (6-0 forward/guard); Junior – Kurt Johnson (6-0 guard); Sophomores – Peter Keaney (6-3 guard), Joe Bryant (5-8 guard).
Key losses: Aaron Allen (forward), Greg LaBonte (guard), D.J. St. Pierre (center), Matt Barrett (guard).
Promising newcomers: Seniors – Tim Day (6-4 forward), Jon Caron (6-2 forward); Junior – Jake Sicotte (5-11 guard); Sophomores – Tom Applegate (6-5 center), David Dean (5-11 guard); Freshman – Zak Johnson (5-5 guard).
Outlook: The Saints should make some noise in their first season in the MVC. But while a strong halfcourt offense took the Saints to Augusta last year, they hope to return with more of a full-court attack. Defensively, they will look to apply more full-court pressure as well. Day, a transfer from Hall-Dale, will give them some points in the paint, but the plan is to run to take advantage of their speed and their outside shooting by spreading the floor. Keaney averaged 9.5 ppg as a freshman and will be one of the top players in Class C.
Coach’s comment: “Our whole offensive philosophy has changed. We really want to play more up-tempo and look to get out in our primary break.” – Coach Ryan Deschenes
