Laurette J. Larkin
1926 – 2009
LEWISTON — Laurette J. Gorver Larkin, 83, devoted, caring wife of Bill Larkin of Sabattus, went to be with Jesus on Friday, Dec. 18, at Marshwood Nursing Home.
She was born in St. Anne, Canada, on Feb. 11, 1926, the daughter of Alphonse and Eva Belanger.
She married William Larkin on April 26, 1980. She worked for many years at Clark Shoe and later at Montello Nursing Home, where she was dearly loved.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, making many blankets, sweaters and mittens for others. She learned and loved to play golf with her husband and friends. For the past 20 years, Laurette and Bill spent the winters in Myrtle Beach, S.C., enjoying their life and retirement years together.
She loved cooking and baking for loved ones and strangers alike. The parish priest of Our Lady of the Rosary especially enjoyed these delicious meals. “Feeding a priest is like feeding Jesus,” Laurette would say.
She was a most giving and generous person and an inspiration to us all.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bill, of Sabattus; her son, Michael Grover and his wife, Lianne, of Greene; her sister, Lucy Belanger of Lewiston; her favorite stepdaughter,Janet Page and her husband, Dave, of Alton Bay, N.H.; stepsons, Bill Larkin Jr., of Richmond, Va., Robert Larkin of Redding, Calif., Michael Larkin and his wife, Margaret, of Leominster, Mass., and Lucien Soucy of Austin, Texas;13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all.
We want to thank the staff at Marshwood and the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for their thorough and compassionate care. We also want to thank two special angels, Lori Hanson and Kathy Crowley, for their help and love.
