DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could any of your readers help me find a child’s wooden rocking chair, padded? — Deborah, Auburn

DEAR SUN SPOTS: You do wonders for people. I hope you can help me. A few weeks ago a person left a heavy man’s coat for repairs. I did not get a name or phone number. I’d like to have it picked up soon. — No Name, Turner

DEAR SUN SPOTS: For many years since I spent a week in a bed and breakfast in Dublin, Ireland, across from the Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church and School, I received a catalog from Shannon and Cash’s, the last in 2008. I’ve misplaced the 2008 Cash’s of Ireland catalog. When I call the 800-number for Shannon, no one answers.

The reference department at the Lewiston Public Library and the 411 operator couldn’t find a listing for either. I have no computer. If possible, would Sun spots try to find a numbers for Cash’s and Shannon?

After reading about books that the Androscoggin County Jail could use, I called the number. I was told that the jail could not use magazines because they have subscriptions.

I subscribe to Time, Newsweek, U.S. News, Consumer Reports and the New Yorker, and I purchase the New York Times each Sunday from Mr. Paperback (they keep it for me). The New York Times Magazine, the Book Review and the Week in Review, especially Frank Rich and Maureen Dowd, are my favorite parts of the Sunday edition. A few days ago, the Dear Abby column said that some offices, etc., would like magazines. Does Sun Spots know of any place that would like my magazines? I find it difficult to throw them away. — No Name, Lewiston

ANSWER: Sun Spots is somewhat confused about your Ireland question. She cannot find anything called Shannon and Cash’s. She did find Cash’s of Ireland (www.cashs.com) online. Apparently they have been purchased by WWRD Holdings Limited, which might explain your difficulty in finding them. Cash’s does not show an 800 number on their Web site, but they do offer an international number: +44 1782 40 40 45.

From what Sun Spots can tell from their Web site, Cash’s appears to be a clearinghouse for manufacturers of fine china, crystal, wedgwood, figurines, etc., and there are U.S. numbers for the individual products. It appears that Cash’s has an outlet in Shannon, Ireland, but Sun Spots didn’t find a number. Perhaps a reader will have more knowledge and offer some assistance.

As for your magazines, Sun Spots does not know of any specific place that would like them, but again we will count on the readers. If all else fails, you can recycle, rather than throwing them away.

Lastly, thank you for the beautiful Christmas card.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you tell me how to contact the Brunswick Holmes Sardines? I want to write a complaint about a can I just opened. The sardines were packed as usual but this can had over an inch space between the side of the can and the contents. This is unusual as the can is usually full. Thanks. — No Name, Litchfield

ANSWER: Sun Spots looked at both Hannaford’s and Shaw’s and checked online, but she could not find a brand of sardines by that name. There are Brunswick sardines in both stores, but no Holmes in the name. If you still have the can, the manufacturer’s location (at least city and state or province) should be on the can. Then you could call directory assistance and get an address or phone number.

The Brunswick sardines Sun Spots saw in local stores are distributed by Bumble Bee. If those are the ones you mean, you can write to Bumble Bee at P.O. Box 85362, San Diego, CA 92186, Attn: Consumer Affairs.
