MINOT — The Minot Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the Minot Town Office.
Fred Huntress will be the speaker on the “Maine Register of Big Trees.” Huntress, semi-retired, has worked for the New England Forestry Foundation and New England Forestry Consultants for 51 years. President of the Poland Historical Society and member of the Poland Conservation Commission, he serves as Poland town forester.
Huntress has been interested in big trees since he located a national record eastern larch (tamarack) in 1966. Since then he has located many large trees, some of which are current state records. Huntress will give the location of big trees he has seen in the area.
Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome. For more information, call Hester Gilpatric at 345-3040.
