JAY — A Jay man is accused of breaking into Yianni’s House of Pizza and taking a small amount of cash over the weekend. The money had not been recovered as of early Monday afternoon.

Brandon DeMillo, 22, was arrested Sunday on charges of burglary and violation of condition of release by Jay police Sgt. Troy Young, police Chief Larry White Sr. said Monday.

DeMillo was also issued summonses on charges of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and criminal mischief, White said.

Police responded to a call at 10 a.m. Sunday about the break-in at the restaurant on Main Street. Two doors were kicked in to gain entry, White said, sometime after closing Saturday evening and reopening Sunday morning.

Young was investigating and taking photos of footprints when he looked down on the railroad bed and saw sneaker prints that matched those at the scene, White said.

Young called Detective Richard Caton IV and Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier, and their investigation led to a Main Street residence. Physical evidence was collected and DeMillo was arrested, White said.

DeMillo is being held without bail at the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington until he appears before a judge.
