NORWAY — Sixteen women will brave the elements in bikinis for a calendar photo shoot at an annual snowmobile racing event later this month.

Jason Harris, a photographer with Life Through the Lens Images of Bethel, says on the event’s Web site that he got the idea for “Project Snowbunny” after discussing a possible shoot at a ski resort with a model. They came upon the idea of creating a calendar featuring models on snowmobiles, and the model’s father, Jon Blaisdell of Blaisdell Brothers Racing in Dixfield, agreed to contribute several high-powered snowmobiles to be used in the shoot.

Harris and his team will be at Lake Pennesseewassee from 8 a.m. to sunset on Jan. 31. The photography will coincide with the second day of the Norway Trackers’ snowmobile club’s two-day Annual Snowfest. The club will hold drag racing events on Jan. 30, as well as a radar run and chowder fest on Jan. 31.

“They’re not really affiliated with us, but they’re going to do the shoot there and they thought that would help bring in some people,” said Dianne Gammon, president of the Norway Trackers.

Harris lists the Trackers, Subway of Oxford, Blaisdell Brothers Racing, I Love Swimwear of New Jersey, and AMI Clubwear of California as supporters of the event. The Web site says the 16 models, who are all Maine natives, were selected for the shoot from more than 150 candidates.

Harris is also soliciting ideas for a contest to be held among the models to determine which 12 will be featured on the calendar. Entries may be submitted through Jan. 21, and the winner will receive a free Subway lunch at the shoot. A second contest seeks a name for the calendar, and the winner will receive a free autographed copy of the final product. Residents wishing to present their snowmobile for possible use in the calendar may do so, providing it is in “photograph ready” condition and can be at the lake on the day of the event.

Attendees will be allowed to watch the shoot, but must remain behind a set of barriers that will be set up about 50 feet from the location. Security personnel will remove anyone who attempts to cross the barriers or who records the shoot by still or video camera without permission from the photo shoot members.
