Lydania ‘Dane’ Toothaker

1927 – 2010

FARMINGTON – Lydania “Dane” Toothaker, 82, of Wilton, died Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Orchard Park Nursing Home in Farmington, with her family at her side after a brief illness.

She was born on Sept. 25, 1927, in Dixfield, the daughter of Levander and Myrtle (Swan) Mitchell. In younger years she attended Dixfield schools before transferring to the Wilton school system and eventually Wilton Academy.

Until becoming a homemaker and raising four children, she worked at the telephone office, and in later years, worked at Bass Shoe, retiring in 1988.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Wilton, the Wilton Historical Society and Order of the Eastern Star.

Dane spent many wonderful summers at the family camps in Carthage as well as at Dummers Beach in Weld and her son’s cottage on Mattaseunk Lake in Aroostook County. She also enjoyed reading, beano and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her four children, Darrell Toothaker and his wife, Trina, of Temple, Russell Toothaker and his wife, Becky, of Wilton, Mark Toothaker and his wife, Paula, of Augusta and Suzanne Kenny and her husband, Richard, of Chesterville; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her longtime feline companion, “Ki-Ki.”

She was predeceased by her husband, Rupert; sister, Kathleen; sister, Patricia Baker; her parents; her stepfather, Henry Babb; grandson, Michael Morse.
