POLAND – Robert D. Merrill (Bob), 84, of Poland, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, with his loving family at his side.
Born in Skowhegan, on Feb. 4, 1925, son of Frank and Hattie May (Merrill) Sanborn. He was educated in Bailey Hill School, Poland, and the U.S. Navy Service School, Virginia. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On April 7, 1966, he married Mary Lou Cote Trundy. He was an Interstate truck driver with Hemingway Transport from 1956 to1982, and self-employed from 1982 on. He was a member of the American Legion Post 150, Tyrian Lodge 73, Poland Sno-Travelers, Roxbury ATV Riders Club, Vintage Race Car Association and Fraternal Order of Eagles. Bob loved God and country, people, tractor trailers, racing, motorcycles, ATV’s, snowmobiles and the great outdoors.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Mary Lou; daughters, Roberta and husband, Richard Edson, of Casco and Deborah Penney of Oxford; son, Michael and wife, Amy Merrill, of Poland; grandchildren, Jerred and wife, Christine Edson, Cressi and husband, Brad Hawthorne, Samuel Penney, Ryan Merrill and Lee-Anna Hopper; and great-grandchildren, Hunter and Tanner Edson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Robert M. Merrill.
He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
