PORTLAND — Nominations are being accepted by the Institute for Family-Owned Business for its 11th Maine Family Business Awards, which takes place May 17 at the Marriott Hotel, South Portland.
The awards honor Maine-based family businesses whose practices have had a positive impact on the Maine business community as well as the firm being honored. Those nominated vie for the top award in three categories: fewer than 25 employees, 25-plus employees, and community service.
Any Maine-based business with two or more members of the same family operating or owning is eligible to be nominated, and nominations can be made by anyone in or outside the business.
The deadline for nominations is Feb. 15, with March 13 the deadline for completed applications and all supporting materials.
An independent judging panel selects winners based upon varied criteria, including: business success, positive business and family linkages, contributions to the community and industry, family participation, work environment, communication, and innovative business practices or strategies.
More information is available at www.fambusiness.org, where nomination forms can be downloaded, or by contacting the Institute office at 780-5935. The Web site also contains information for businesses not entering the awards but with interest in the institute’s programs and membership.
