Monday’s heavy rains and Tuesday’s flooding left Newton Brook clogged with ice chunks beside Route 2 in Dixfield on Wednesday morning. The larger culvert installed last year under Route 2 showed no apparent damage from the ice blowout beside the former Newton Brook Rest Area.

Split Brook resembled a pond on Wednesday afternoon instead of a meandering brook at its confluence with the ice-covered Androscoggin River in Rumford Center. The brook’s channels were completely submerged by flooding caused by Monday’s heavy rainfall.
