When I made the initial phone call to the Sun Journal to report that four turkeys had been taken from a refrigerator at the Calvary United Methodist Church, I was immediately put in touch with the people who would be best able to tell the story of the plight and the flight of the four elusive turkeys.

I thank the Sun Journal staff for taking this “fowl” play so seriously, helping turn an incredibly sad situation into one of amazing grace.

Frankly, as much as the generosity of Lewiston was so truly appreciated (a local restaurant feeding the flock and numerous offers of assistance, including the incredible donation from the Fire Department), the fact that more of Lewiston’s hungry discovered two free weekly meals was, in my opinion, the very best outcome.
