Helen Clark Andrews

1916 – 2010

WEST PARIS — Helen Clark (Axtell) Andrews, 93 of Sumner, died Feb. 22, at the Ledgeview Living Center.

She was born May 4, 1916, in Oakland, the daughter of Charles D. and Carrie Ellis Clark. She married Frank Axtell Sr. in December 1931 and moved to Dixfield in 1941 and later to Mexico. He died in July 1960.

She had been employed at Diamond International in Peru until her retirement in 1978.

She was a 30-plus year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a 30-plus year member of Pleasant Pond Grange. She enjoyed crocheting, arts and crafts, taught ceramics and had a large doll collection.

She is survived by her husband, Vernal Andrews of Sumner; one sister, Rosalina Chaplin of Washington State; two daughters, Louise Pullen and husband, Horace, of Oakland and Donna Hunter and husband, Royce, of Oakland; two sons, Frank Axtell Jr. and wife, Gabrielle, of Vassalboro and Daniel Axtell and wife, Jane, of Abbyville, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; stepmother, Ruby Clark; two brothers, Curtis Clark and Victor Clark; and four sisters, Edith Genthern, Doris Ploude, Betsy Lane and Alma Elliott.
