DEAR SUN SPOTS: An unfortunate, odd incident happened to my good friend, Donald Hebert. Don is the produce manager for Shaw’s in Auburn, and is the lead vocalist of the popular local band Veggies by Day. He is very well-known in the community, and the nicest, friendliest guy you would ever meet, born and raised in this community.

On Saturday night, after playing a gig at Bocce’s in Lewiston, Don packed up his SUV with all his gear, including his beloved 2007 Limited Edition Taylor Guitar. He did not notice that the back window of his truck was not latched tightly, and on his way home to Goffee Street (off Pleasant), the guitar silently slid out the window. He drove and ran (in a cowboy hat and boots!) through the streets for hours that night, looking for his guitar, but it had disappeared.

Don has been putting up fliers and is offering a reward for the return of his guitar. He plays with this guitar every weekend, and losing it has been like losing an old friend to him. Don has done so many benefit gigs with that guitar and has touched so many people, I know he’d appreciate any help he could get.

This guitar is one-of-a-kind, and sells for more than $5,000. He has had no luck with the police or the pawn shops and is hoping someone just “found” it by the side of the road and decided to keep it because they don’t know who to return it to. If anyone knows anything about his guitar, his phone number is 689-5128. — Danielle Lind

ANSWER: Sun Spots offers her sympathy. She once had a box fall out of the truck while moving and ever since is paranoid, frequently forcing Mr. Sun Spots to stop the car so she can check and make sure nothing has fallen out. She hopes that someone turns in Don’s guitar as soon as your letter appears.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: There is a wooden structure with a platform across from the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Lewiston. Do you have any information on who built this structure and what is its use? Thank you for your help. — Johnny Lee Dawson

ANSWER: Seldom has Sun Spots worked so hard to find an answer to a question. She felt like she was on a treasure hunt, with each clue leading her to the next. But, finally, an answer came from Paul at nearby Gendron & Gendron, who said that the platform is owned by RF Technologies, which before it closed last spring, used to manufacture antennas. The platform was used to test those antennas. Mystery solved!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A few years ago I heard an interview with Barbara Walters. She said her daughter was adopted from a home in Auburn. Does anyone know of a home for unwed mothers in Auburn around the 1950s? Thank you. — D. McAtee, Lewiston

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Good morning from sunny Florida! I read online about Clarice’s problem with her sheets fitting on her bed. There is a product for this problem — there are devices available called fitted bed sheet grippers and they work very well. I bought some at Wal-Mart, but I know you could buy them at any place that sells bedding, such as Bed, Bath and Beyond or Linen’s and Things. Love Sunspots! — Susan Stevens, sabs1956@hotmail.com

ANSWER: Thanks for your letter, Susan! Clarice will surely be pleased to hear that such a device exists. By the way, Linens and Things is now online only, having closed its physical stores during the recession.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: To anyone inquiring about Kate, who used to do pet grooming at the Kennel Shop in Lewiston, she now has her own pet grooming shop open at 1002 Minot Ave., Auburn, between Gifford’s Ice Cream and Mac’s Grill. The name of it is Four Paws. It is a white flat-roof building with three green doors. Her phone number is 240-4796. — J.S.
