LEWISTON — The award-winning German band Cara will perform Tuesday, March 9, at the Franco-American Heritage Center, the first of many 2010 Celtic Tuesday performances.

The quintet, known for its female vocal duo, dry humor and entertaining stage presence, will play Wednesday, March 10, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in Carthage, and Thursday, March 11, at Unity College Center for the Performing Arts.

Cara combines vocals, piano, fiddle, flute, guitar, bodrhán, uilleann pipes, accordion and concertina. Band members add a unique twist to Celtic music with traditional and original Celtic compositions from their home country of Germany.

Why, one might ask, would a German band go professional and tour the world with its interpretation of Celtic music considering the numerous talented musicians coming out of Ireland these days.

But Cara’s debut CD, “In Colour,” was a big success, and festivals and venues all over Europe booked the band. In 2006, Cara was signed by RealGoodMusic and its second CD, “In Between Times,” won a nomination for the German Critics Award. Since then, the band has had three successful U.S. tours.

Curtain is at 7 p.m. and there will be a preshow jam at 6:15 p.m. at all three venues, when audience members are urged to bring their musical instruments to play a few minutes with the featured artists.
