AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A lopsided committee vote may doom a bill to index Maine’s minimum wage to cost-of-living increases.
The Labor Committee voted 12-1 Monday against the bill, after members said the timing is wrong for such a law while the economy is weakened. The committee vote almost assures the bill’s defeat when it reaches the House and Senate.
The bill would adjust Maine’s hourly minimum wage for inflation annually. Maine’s state minimum wage is $7.50 per hour, 25 cents an hour higher than the $7.25 federal minimum.
