Normand A. Chabot

LEWISTON — A Mass of Christian burial honoring the life of Normand A. Chabot was celebrated Friday at Holy Cross Church of the Prince of Peace Parish after prayers at the Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home by Brother of the Sacred Heart, Irenee Chabot who recited the rosary and by Monsignor Rene Mathieu who then recited the litergy of the word. The Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Wallace Assembly Honor Guard met the funeral procession at the church and led the funeral cortege into the church prior to services. The celebrant of the Mass was Monsignor Mathieu, who concelebrated Mass with Monsignor Marc Caron, the Rev. Maurice Morin, the Rev. Joseph Daniels, the Rev. Nathan March, and the Rev. Daniel Greenleaf. Normand’s nephew Philip Chabot draped his uncle’s casket with a white burial pall that symbolizes Normand’s birth into a new life with God. Philip then proclaimed the Old Testament in French in honor of his family’s French heritage. Normand’s nephew, Gene Chabot then proclaimed the New Testament in English to honor their family’s American citizenship that their uncle was so proud to defend during his 30 year career with U.S. Army National Guard. The prayer of the faithful was then recited by Normand’s grandnephew, Brian McKeown. The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Normand’s two nephews, Maurice Chalifoux and Dr. Roland Chalifoux. After Mass the funeral procession to St. Peter’s Cemetery passed Normand’s home on Acadia Avenue, where he was born, raised and had resided all his life. Prior to Normand’s entombment in St. Peter’s Cemetery Chapel of the Resurrection, Father Greenleaf recited committal prayers followed by the U.S. Army Honor Detail playng “taps” and who also presented Colonel Chabot’s burial flag to his sister, Yvette Chalifoux in honor of her brother’s 30 year career in the 133rd Engineering Battalion of the Maine Army National Guard. The last formal ceremony at the cemetery concluded with the Wallace Assembly Fourth Degree Honor Guard commanded by Sir Knight Raymond Masse who ordered one last final salute in honor of their deceased fraternal brother Knight. Pallbearerers were nephews, Philip Chabot, Gene Chabot, Dr. Roland Chalifoux and Maurice Chalifoux as well as Brian and Kevin McKeown. The flag bearers were grandniece Roxanne Chalifoux and grandnephew, Julien Chalifoux. At the conclusion of services, all in attendance were invited to a reception of fellowship at Marco’s Restaurant in Lewiston.
