DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m writing to pass on some information in response to Joanna Walsh-Ward’s Feb. 26 letter regarding her request for Celtic jewelry. I called the Scottish Lion at 1-800-355-7268 (Fax 1-603-356-9032; e-mail info@scottishlion.com). They stopped sending me a catalog, but I found these numbers from an old one.

Apparently the company is in transition regarding the use of printed catalogs and will be concentrating on ordering online.

As I do not have a computer either, if Ms. Wash-Ward finds a Celtic company that still provides a catalog fo their customers, I hope she will share that information with Sun Spots readers. I will be happy to do the same.

Thank you for all your good work. Help from your column is invaluable. — C.H., Farmington

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Scottish Lion in New Hampshire, (Conway, I think), has Celtic jewelry. I have purchased some for gifts in the past and have been satisfied. They have a Web site but I don’t have it. — No Name, No Town

ANSWER: The Web site is, not surprisingly, www.scottishlion.com. They have three locations. In addition to New Hampshire (P.O. Box 5002-191, North Conway, N.H. 03860), they have stores in North Carolina and Nova Scotia. The toll free number is 1-800-956-5458. They appear to specialize in tartans, but they also sell jewelry and food, as well as other items. They do have a catalog order form online.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I called the number provided by Patty of Sabattus for Creative Irish Gifts. Neither is active. I called 411. There is no listing in the business directory in Little Rock or the surrounding area. I have ordered in the past from Creative Irish Gifts. No catalogs have been sent for many years. Thank you. — Joanna Walsh-Ward, Lewiston

ANSWER: The phone number provided by Patty was slightly off. The 1-800 number should have been 1-866-851-7918 for orders or 1-866-851-7916. Creative Irish Gifts is now Shop Irish and can be found at www.shopirish.com. The Web site says they still offer a catalog.

Because of the expense of printing and mailing catalogs and the prevalence of online shopping, many companies have reduced the number and frequency of catalogs. If you don’t order over a certain period of time, some retailers will stop sending you catalogs.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for the helpful and educational information your column provides. A few weeks ago you provided the names of two karate academies for a reader. I would like to add, and recommend highly, a new one: Phoenix Academy of Martial Arts, 1225 Center St., Auburn, 577-1046 or 577-4179. They offer karate classes for ages 2 and up. My grandchildren, ages 3, 4 and 14, attend and love it. Phoenix offers yoga, women’s self-defense and kickboxing. Thank you. — Judy, Auburn

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In your column on March 7, 2009, Rebecca of Lewiston was asking for a CPAP machine. If she still wants one, I have one. She can call me at 685-4256. — Mary Bushie, Kents Hill

ANSWER: Hopefully she’s still not waiting after almost a year, but Sun Spots bets someone else will want it.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for an Overlock or a Surger sewing machine. If somebody has one, I’d be willing to pay a little bit, although I can’t afford a lot, or if someone has one to give away. Call me at 268-4038 and leave a message. I’ll call you back. — Beverly Michaud, Litchfield

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Would you or a reader be able to find out if Maine Wide in Augusta has closed. Thank you. — No Name, No Town

ANSWER: Sun Spots couldn’t find anything online about it closing, but their Web site isn’t working and the phone number is disconnected.
