LEWISTON – The Lewiston Jr. Maineiacs Mite Orange hockey team won four straight games on its way to becoming the first Lewiston Mite team to win the Midcoast Classic in the tournament’s eight-year history. The two-day tournament was held at Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport the weekend of March 13 – 14.
Lewiston swept through its preliminary bracket with a 4-1 victory over Midcoast Storm 1, a 5-1 win versus the Casco Bay Thrashers, and a 6-1 triumph over Gardiner Mite 1. In the championship game, Lewiston battled back from an early deficit to defeat Gardiner Mite 2, 5-2.
Nine different players scored a goal over the course of the weekend. In their last ten games of the season, the Lewiston Jr. Maineiacs Orange Mites outscored their opponents 62–11.
