DEAR SUN SPOTS: Area Scrabble fans are invited to help raise money for Literacy Volunteers by playing their favorite board game, but with an unusual twist. In this version the competition features teams of four collaborating over the same letter tray to try and outscore another four-person team.

To participate, players bring a minimum of $10 each in pledges, but the goal is to raise as much money as possible for Literacy Volunteers. An array of prizes, such as original artwork, a handmade quilt and a custom-made Scrabble board will be awarded to the top fundraisers.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Once again this year we will have a yard sale in late May to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. We are accepting items in good, clean condition. We reserve the right to refuse any items that we feel we will not be able to sell. Spring cleaning is right around the corner, so think of us. It’s for a very good cause. DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Aug. 14, the 1969 Class of 1969 Elm Street School in Mechanic Falls will be holding our first reunion after 40 years. It will be at the American Legion facility in downtown Mechanic Falls. As usual, after that much time we lose touch as everyone makes a life for themselves.

One person we are searching for is Linda Powell, who started school in 1959 at Water Street School. We would love to see any member of the class and as many of our teachers as can attend. It will be a potluck affair.

Please contact me by calling 345-9559 or e-mailing xxwrenxx@aol.com. Thanks. — Ollie Emery, Mechanic Falls
