BOSTON (AP) — Senior Dave Wilson made 21 saves in his third straight postseason victory, leading Maine to a 5-2 victory over defending national champion Boston University in the semifinal round of the Hockey East tournament Friday night.

Maine will take on Boston College for the Hockey East championship Saturday. BC defeated Vermont 3-0 in the other semifinal.

Maine will be going for its sixth Hockey East crown and first since 2004 in its 13th championship game appearance. Boston College is trying for its fourth title in six years.

The teams will meet in the title game for the sixth time, and first since 2000. BC, which won Hockey East and the national title two years ago, has won three of the last five games against Maine.

Joey Diamond. Brian Flynn and Robby Dee scored in the first two periods for the Black Bears (19-16-3).

Wilson, Maine’s third-string goalie during the regular season, celebrated his 25th birthday by winning his third game in a week. He is starting because No. 1 goalie Scott Darlin was suspended indefinitely for violating team rules, and backup Shawn Sirman is a freshman.

“It’s a dream,” Wilson said. “I’ve been looking forward to playing in the postseason, playing this kind of hockey, for a long time. The guys have been behind me all the way. I think it’s a great team effort.”

Wilson took a shutout into the third period. He stopped Ross Gaudet on a breakaway before Dave deKastrozza and Tanner House scored 12 seconds apart to the seal the win. The victory raised Wilson’s four-year record to 8-18-1.

With 27 seconds left, the Maine fans broke out in a loud chorus of “Happy Birthday” to Wilson.

Kevin Shattenkirk and Vinny Saponari scored for Boston University (18-17-3). The loss dropped the Terriers to 18-17-3 and likely ended their season.
