1985 marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of German-born composer Johann Sebastian Bach, and to celebrate the event a recital will be held Thursday by a noted Bates College musician.

Associate professor of music Marion R. Anderson will perform an all-Bach organ program at 8 p.m. in the Lewiston college’s chapel, and the public is invited to attend without charge.

Anderson will play the college’s 36-stop handcrafted tracker-action organ. The organ, similar in style to classic European instruments played by Bach, Handel and Mozart, incorporates features of both 19th and 20th century organ design.
