Daniel L. Fowler

1926 – 2010

RUMFORD — Daniel L. Fowler, 84, died Tuesday, March 16, at Rumford Hospital where he was treated with kindness and dignity by a caring staff. He died very peacefully, surrounded by love and holding the hands of his family.

Born in Mexico on March 6, 1926, he was the son of Lawrence and Hilda (Whitney) Fowler. He graduated from Mexico High School in 1944, attended Portland Junior College, served in the U.S. Army, and then attended Syracuse University. He worked for Boise Cascade as a foreman and as a real estate broker in New York until his retirement.

Grampie knew that laughter was an important part of life. He enjoyed fishing, berry picking, cribbage, horseshoes and, most of all, playing with his grandchildren.

He was married in Quincy, Mass., in 1949 to Geneva Doucette, who survivors in Rumford. Other survivors include June Duhamel and her husband, Jack, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., Lesley Fowler and her husband, Dan Cohen, of Waterville, Daniel Cash and his wife, Marie, of Mexico; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A great-grandson, Gauge S. Fowler, is expected in March.

Dan was predeceased by a son, Stephen G. Fowler; and a great-granddaughter, Ann Fowler Murphy.
