DIXFIELD – An unidentified man stole a collection canister from Ellis Variety on Weld Road with an undisclosed amount of money in it at 4:10 p.m. March 21, police said.

The money was being raised to help pay for treatment of an ill Dirigo High School student.

Dixfield Sgt. Jeff Howe said a surveillance video showed a white male in his 50s of medium build and about 5 feet, six inches tall. He was wearing a black and white plaid jacket, jeans and a dark baseball cap. Anyone with information is asked to call the Dixfield Police Department at 562-4517.

The Police Department also confiscated 85 marijuana plants from Hall Hill Road resident Craig Kuhns, 44, at 10 a.m. March 8.

Howe said an informant tipped off police, and Kuhns consented to a search of his house. In addition to the plants, police also seized six ounces of processed marijuana, a small amount of hashish oil, and several pieces of smoking and growing items.

Kuhns received a summons to appear in Rumford District Court. No date has been set.
