Marie R. LeBlanc

1922 – 2010

ROCKPORT — Marie Regina (Gallant) LeBlanc, 87, a former resident of Jay, passed away from heart failure on Tuesday, March 23, at Pen Bay Hospital with her family by her side.

She was born sixth of eight children to Josephine (Casey) and Felix Gallant in Chisholm on Sept. 12, 1922. She attended St. Rose of Lima Elementary School in Chisholm and Jay High School.

She was a World War II bride when she married Roger LeBlanc on July 17, 1944. She accompanied her new husband to Florida, while he served in the U.S. Navy. When they returned to her hometown of Chisholm, her various employers were IP, Ditata’s, Dr. Thomas Fiorica and Bill and Sim’s Market. She loved having company, serving tea and sweets to her daily visitors while spending time on her sun porch before she moved from her home in Jay.

Those closest to her knew that Peeps, vanilla ice cream and Maria cookies were her favorite treats that always satisfied her sweet-tooth. In her younger days, she was a choir member and religious education teacher at St. Rose of Lima. She volunteered with the former SPREAD program for adults with developmental disabilities, enjoyed singing and acting with the Senior Swingers performance group and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella.

During recent years, she left her hometown of Jay, and moved to Liberty with her son, Michael. She enjoyed the beauty and peace of her natural surroundings where she looked forward to entertaining visitors and making new friends. In her new home, she found the perfect place in the garden for her statue of the Blessed Mother.

She is survived by her children, Ronald LeBlanc (and Jeanene), Joanne and (Ray) Gosselin, all of Fayette; Carol and (Jeff) Vienneau of Jay; Michael LeBlanc of Liberty, Anne LeBlanc of Farmington, and Dr. Tim Richardson of Hallowell, who was like a son to her; her sister, Irene (Gallant) Samson, of Jay; grandchildren, Aimee LeBlanc, Jamie LeBlanc-Dikijian, Ryan Vienneau, Melissa and Ashley Judkins, Mary Gosselin, Jennifer Holmes and Jeffrey Vienneau Jr.

She was predeceased by her husband, Roger LeBlanc; son, James LeBlanc of Nashua, N.H.; and granddaughter, Renee LeBlanc of Jay.
