POLAND — Libby Bernier of Poland, a senior at Poland Regional High School, has been selected to receive the 2010 Principal’s Award, Principal Cari Medd announced. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

According to Medd, “Libby has been an outstanding citizen of Poland Regional High School while she has been here. She is an outstanding musician, a leader on the sports field and the school’s first student body president. Her leadership and academic excellence have left their mark here and she will be greatly missed. She leaves the school a better place.”

Bernier, Medd and other award winners and their principals will attend an honors luncheon at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor.

The luncheon recognizes the students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler, former Maine principals and executive directors of the association.
