Sarah Watson Turner
1924 – 2010

LAKELAND, Fla. — Sarah Watson Braley Turner, 85, died at her home on March 22, in Lakeland, Fla., from heart failure surrounded by loved ones after a short illness.

 She was born in New Gloucester to Floyd and Charlotte Watson on Nov. 9, 1924.  She graduated as valedictorian from New Gloucester High School in 1943, and in 1947, she graduated from Central Maine General School of Nursing, where she was a World War II cadet nurse.

She married Kenneth Braley in 1946, and he died one year later from an auto accident.  In 1949, she married Harold Turner.  They were married 46 years and during these years they raised a family on a farm in Windsor.  After their retirement, they spent the winter months in Florida, and in 1997, she moved permanently to Florida.

She worked as a registered nurse at the Augusta State Hospital and also, for many years at the U.S. VA Hospital in Togus, from which she retired.

Survivors include son, Stephen Turner (Deborah) of Charlton, Mass.; daughters, June (Mark) Demaree of Lakeland, Fla., and Sandra (Clyde) Billing, Augusta; nine grandchildren, Beth Acken, Hope Sette, James Billing, Ryan Turner, Kevin Turner, John Turner, Mark Demaree, Tiffany and Erin Demaree; nine great-grandchildren; and her companion of eight years, Everett Blake of New Gloucester.

She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Evelyn Watson; and her husbands, Kenneth Braley and Harold Turner.
