Edward M. Laine
1920 – 2010

AUBURN —  Edward M. Laine, 89, of Lewiston, passed away Sunday, March 28, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, after a brief illness.

He was born in Auburn, July 1, 1920, the son of Bella Supovitz and Joseph Lelansky. He graduated from Edward Little High School and later served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Sept. 2, 1951, he married the late Renee (Fogelsohn) Laine.

He worked in the shoe industry for a number of years. Eddie also worked at First National Tire, then at Wilner Wood Products, retiring in 1982. In 1983, he went to work for the University of Maine Cooperative Extension until 1996.

The last few years he was a track official at Bates College. He also enjoyed talking to the coaches and players of the various sports teams. He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed all sports. He was a life long member of Congregation Beth Abraham in Auburn and was also a member of the Robin Dow Association.

He is survived by a son, Philip of Lewiston; a sister, Ruth Ann Kravetz of West Palm Beach, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Tanya Shapiro of Falmouth and Rhoda Green of Delray Beach, Fla.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Arnold Lelansky.
