A recent shipment of furs to George R. Hunnewell of Auburn, contained about 6,000 skunk skins, 1,000 muskrat skins and a comparatively large number of the skins of larger animals. Mr. Hunnewell has at present nine traveling buying agents and about 6100 shipping agents.

50 years ago, 1960

Thousands of persons reportedly have signed petitions opposing plans to construct Lewiston’s million-dollar junior high school on the 32-acre plot off East Avenue and Montello Street in favor of building at Marcotte Park.

Ward Five Alderman Frank J. Bussiere said last night the petitions have been inked by approximately 4,000 persons during the past several days.

Bussiere is a leading opponent to proposals to construct the school along East Avenue and Montello Street and the petitions probably will be presented to the city council in the near future.

25 years ago, 1985

Bicyclist Norm Poulin, owner and fitness director of Andy Valley Racquetball Club, will speak at Thursday’s meeting of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club on “Preconditioning for the Triathlon.”

Poulin will talk after the noon luncheon at Steckino’s Heritage House in Lewiston. His talk is to help people training for the fourth annual Androscoggin Challenge Triathlon, scheduled for the twin Cities in June.
