Gertrude P. Desjardins

1920-2010

LEWISTON — Gertrude P. Desjardins, 89, formerly of 11 Noble St., Lewiston, died Tuesday, March 30, at the d’Youville Pavilion. She had been a resident of The Lamp Nursing Home in Lisbon since 2008.

Born in Old Town on Sept. 13, 1920, she was the daughter of Ludger and Leona Bourque Pepin. Educated locally, she was a graduate of Lewiston High School, and attended Bliss Business School. On Sept. 1, 1941, she married Roland Desjardins, who passed away on June 11, 1994. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a bookkeeper for many years by Day’s Oil, now Dead River. A member of the former St. Patrick’s Parish, she belonged to the Rosary Sodality and volunteered for many years at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. She loved spending time with family and friends, and enjoyed playing gin rummy, bingo, and bowling.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy, and husband, David Robinson, of Auburn; a brother, Albert Pepin of Lewiston; a sister, Eleanor Gurn, of Scarborough; four grandchildren, Kimberly McKeage, Amy Maddaloni, Penny Davis, and Mary Robinson; and five great-grandchildren, Brooks, Elise, Chloe and Emmy Maddaloni and Anthony Robinson.

Besides her parents and husband; she was predeceased by seven brothers, Nelson, John, Robert, Maurice, Daniel, Paul and Thomas Pepin; and a sister, Eleanor Huff.
