LEWISTON — Jackie Leclerc, a volunteer at LA Arts, showed up at the office recently thinking she was there to attend a surprise birthday gathering for Director Andrew Harris. As always, she began her volunteer duties; however, she was surprised with a visit from Lewiston Mayor Laurent F. Gilbert Sr. With staff cheering her on and cameras flashing, Gilbert presented her with the March Mayoral VIBE Award (Volunteers Inspire By Example).

Gilbert said, “Your enthusiasm, reliability, sense of humor and willingness to undertake any task is a tremendous asset to the organization’s outreach and community offerings. Your services are one of the reasons why L/A Arts can accomplish what it does, and your commitment to teamwork and getting the job done is greatly appreciated. Thank you for sharing your time and abilities within the All-America City of Lewiston.”

The mayor also presented her with a VIBE lapel pin and a donated lunch for two certificate from Fran’s Place. Leclerc was all smiles, and the festivities continued as LA Arts staff served  an ice cream cake with the words “You’re Great!”

Monthly nominations for the VIBE award may be made via the city’s Web site, www.ci.lewiston.me.us (under “Special Notices”), and applications can also be found at city hall service windows.
