Nelson E. Guzman

1955 – 2010

AUBURN — Nelson E. Guzman, 54, of Litchfield, passed away Saturday, April 3, after a long illness at the Hospice House. He was the husband of Anne M. (Coffin) Guzman.

He was born in New York City, N.Y., Dec. 21, 1955, a son of the late Rafael and Gladys (Benitz) Guzman Sr. He attended schools in New York, and graduated from Adele Stevens High School.

After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country as a welder until his retirement in 1992. During that time, he met and married his wife Anne on June 15, 1981. He then went to work for the Veterans Administration in Togus as a clerk in the medical records department.

He and his wife settled in Maine in 1992, and moved to Litchfield in 2000. He was very active in his community. He was a member of the Sportsman Club and volunteered his time working the bingo games and the annual fishing derby, which he enjoyed greatly. He and his wife also volunteered for the Litchfield Senior Luncheons, which where held on a monthly basis, and at the farmer’s club working at the Fair.

His favorite activity though was watching sporting events on television and always seemed to have one on. Being from New York, he always was rooting for the Yankees, Giants and the Mets.

Besides his wife of 29 years, he is survived by a son, George L. Scamman, whose fiancée is Dawn Brasil, of Winslow; a sister, Marcia Newball, whose husband is Ramon, of Nassua, Bahamas; three grandchildren, Donnie Roy, Charles J. Scamman and Caitlyn J. Scamman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a son, Ron D. Guzman in 2000; and a brother, Rafael Guzman Jr. in 1990.
