LEWISTON – The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing and the Prevent Cancer Foundation have partnered to present the 20-foot long, 8-foot high Prevent Cancer Super Colon™ from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at the Auburn Mall.

The Prevent Cancer Super Colon™ is a giant, inflatable and educational replica of a human colon. Visitors are encouraged to walk through and learn about the importance of colorectal cancer prevention, risks, symptoms and screening options.

“The Super Colon is a fun, interesting, interactive opportunity for people of all ages to learn more about colon health and colon cancer screening,” said Maureen Higgins, Dempsey Center Cancer health outreach educator.

“In addition to the Super Colon, we will have a variety of educational materials as well as a video of a colonoscopy. Colon cancer is preventable — the more we educate ourselves, the more we reduce our risk of ever being diagnosed with this disease.”

The exhibit offers a close-up look at healthy tissue, Crohn’s disease, colitis and various stages of colorectal cancer, the second leading cancer killer in the country for men and women. If detected early, the disease shows a 90 percent  survival rate.
