PARIS — A benefit for the Open Sky Fund, which provides provides musical instruments and opportunities to children in Maine in memory of Van Lawton, will be held Friday April 16,  at the American Legion in Paris. The doors open at 6 p.m, and entertainment will begin at 7 p.m.

Local musician Jordan Kaulbach will open the night with his new band, Blue Kwansu. The event will feature Zoograss, New England’s zaniest bluegrass boys, as well as Portland’s own Lazzlo (roots/Americana) and Oogie James & the Satin Kings (funk). This event will also be host to a comeback performance by Johnny Cashed and the Rednecks, and dance performances by the mesmerizing Nevaeh Dance Company.

At this event, folks can expect to see “live art” happening at the venue by  artists including Elizabeth Smedberg, Shannon Kaulbach  and Harry Brown. Artwork will be sold and all proceeds will go to the fund.

The Open Sky Fund has been set up in memory of local musician Evandle Lawton who passed away last October.  He was a member of the Stoned Mountain Boyz and beloved friend to many.  His music and loving energy touched everyone who met him and in his honor the Open Sky Fund has been created.  The fund will raise money to purchase musical instruments, lessons, and /or transportation, as well as sponsor events and provide musical opportunities for children across the state.
