LAWRENCE M. CHURCHILL SR.
1927-2010

NEW SHARON — Lawrence M. Churchill Sr., 82, a resident of New Sharon, died on April 8 at Orchard Park Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loving children and the caring staff of Orchard Park Rehabilitation Center and Beacon Hospice Care.

Lawrence was born on Sept. 22, 1927 in Farmington, the son of Edgar Perley Churchill and Doris (Spinney) Churchill. He graduated from Farmington High School, attended UMO, and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Henderson Memorial Baptist Church and frequently attended the Farmington Falls Union Baptist Church. After leaving the Navy, he worked in sales at Forster Manufacturing Company in Wilton. He went on to run a franchise of Compact Coffee, worked as a foreman for Maine Asphalt Company, and set up and ran his own sawmill business making pallets. Lawrence was a retired Army Reservist and eventually retired from teaching Forestry at Mt. Blue High School. He loved to tinker, play golf and buy and sell used cars.

He is survived by his second wife, Thelma (St. Pierre) Churchill, who currently resides in Sebring, Fla., his daughter, Connie, and son-in-law, William Stephens, of Lansdale, Pa.; his daughter, Barbara and son-in-law George Lambert of Industry; his son, Lawrence Jr., and daughter-in-law, Laurie Churchill, of Farmington, and daughter Nancy and son-in-law Russell of Farmington. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Beth Weiner, Cynthia Phillips, Joshua Pratt and Jessica Brown; and nine great-grandchildren.

Lawrence was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Marilyn (Benson) Churchill.
