TERREBONNE, Ore. — Dwight F. Small, 90, died March 31, at his home in Terrebonne, Ore., with his family by his side.

He was born in South Chesterville, Maine, on Dec. 6, 1919, to Charles W. and Mary F. Small. His family moved to Livermore Falls when he was two years old.

He was a member of the Eaton Memorial United Methodist Church and graduated from Livermore Fall High School in 1937.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines.

He was employed at the International Paper Mill in Jay until 1956. He then was a technician for the U.S. Weather Bureau in Portland until 1961 before serving as Chief of the U.S. Army StratCom facility in Maynard, Mass., from which he retired in 1981 and moved to Merrimack, N.H. He spent the last 10 years of his retirement living near his daughter, Joyce, in Terrebonne, Ore.

He was devoted to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, plus he was an avid ham radio operator.

Family members include two daughters, Marilyn Peterson and her husband, Robert, of Fremont, N.H., Joyce Day and her husband, Bill, of Terrebonne, Ore.; four grandchildren, Sherry Sutherland of Albany, Ore., Frank Day of Terrebonne, Ore., Shelby Dona of Acton, Mass., and Kristen Adrian of Bedford, N.H.; and nine great-grandchildren, Brittany, AnnaMae, Wil, Sam, Joshua, Cortnie, Cydnie, Keegan and Kelsey.

He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Helen (Bamford) Small, who passed away in 1998.
